"Committing to authenticity takes immense courage, and I don’t believe it can be achieved alone"
-Chantal Pierrat, Founder of Emerging Women
Can you give us a brief overview of what Emerging Women is?
Emerging Women is a platform that supports and inspires women to express themselves authentically through the work that they do. We work to provide the tools, knowledge, and network to help women lead, start and grow businesses in a way that integrates feminine values such as connection, collaboration and heart. It is our desire that women have a strong voice in the shaping of our world’s future.
Tell me more about your career before starting your business?
For over ten years, I was the VP of Sales and Marketing for Sounds True, a multimedia publishing company focused on spirituality, personal growth, and holistic living. In my last year there, I spearheaded the successful launch of the Wake Up Festival, Sounds True’s first annual national event with over 25 speakers and 800 attendees.
Before that, I had been “workin’ like a dude” in the medical devices industry. And though I was finding success in some ways, I was exhausted and depleted. So I left that 4-year career in search of work that would amplify my dedication to inner transformation and my passion for ideas.
What inspired you to start Emerging Women?
Committing to authenticity takes immense courage, and I don’t believe it can be achieved alone. When I asked Brené Brown if community helped with this process, she said, “it’s more of a prerequisite.” We need the witnessing and reflection from others to fully step into this bravery, for me that came from meeting regularly with a core group of authentic women. I want Emerging Women to be a place where smart, ambitious, compassionate women can come for a deep and meaningful network of support as they make the bold choice to live their personal truths.
What’s been the biggest highlight?
Being open and vulnerable with like-minded and like-hearted women, whether it’s meeting powerful women leaders at Emerging Women Live, or local women over tea, has been nothing short of amazing. These women, equally ready and willing to shift their lives and work to the feminine paradigm, have moved and inspired me to my core.
What’s been the biggest challenge?
Walking the walk. We know that we will find greater success if we integrate feminine principles like trust, vulnerability and self-compassion into our everyday work, but after years of operating in the masculine system, it can be a real struggle at times. The knee-jerk reaction is not always to trust in the unknown or admit that we need help. Luckily, we have a wonderfully supportive team here to help us remember the power of those vulnerable acts, usually by example.
Emerging Women has featured some of the most empowering and inspiring women in the spiritual and personal development field including Arianna Huffington, Brené Brown and Gabrielle Bernstein. What’s been your secret to building these relationships and getting them onboard?
Authenticity. That coupled with the fact that these are phenomenal women who really believe that empowering each other will change the world. They’re already on board with the mission – so then it’s just making it work around busy schedules!
What advice would you give to other women who dream of starting their own business?
The energy of emerging is like a fire. So I say, do the inner work to make sure you are in alignment with yourself, and let that fire burn. It will totally sweep you away, and there’s no way to know exactly where it’s going to lead. It’s okay, you don’t have to know. Keep trusting in the unknown, even when that feels totally crazy. Just do the inner work and keep taking those funky Frankenstein steps. You got this!
What’s next for you?
We are so excited to be launching the Power Circles program. I know I gain so much strength from my women’s groups (yes, I’m in more than one…), and Power Circles are huge hits at our events. We can’t wait to facilitate that empowerment, connection and big vision for women in cities around the world.
What’s your favourite quote?
“You are unique, and if that is not fulfilled, then something has been lost.”
