A powerful exercise to get clear on what you want from 2013

Personal Growth8 CommentsDecember 28th, 2012

I hope you had an amazing, fun-filled Christmas and are getting ready to celebrate the new year in style. I don't know about you, but I've eaten way too much food than can possibly be good for me- but hey that's what Christmas is about right!? :)

We're at that time of year when many of us start to reflect on the year just gone and think deeply about what we really want from the year ahead. Although you'll know I'm not a big fan of the rigid goal setting approach (especially if you read my last blog post), I am a huge believer of setting clear, powerful intentions to keep us focused, energetically connected and living life true to our real purpose and potential.

This week I wanted to share with you a brilliant, fun and incredibly powerful way you get clear on your intentions for 2013 (I did share this on my blog last year but it's so powerful it's so worth sharing again).

Here goes:

Imagine your life is a book.

Imagine 2012 was is a past chapter in that book.

What would the title be? What would the theme be?

Now Imagine you are the lead character in the book.

What did they learn? What were their obstacles? What could they have done differently?

(really get into the role of the curious observer. Project yourself back into your student days and imagine your in an English class, studying the book of "{**ENTER YOUR NAME HERE**'s} Life"

Now look ahead to Chapter 2013- the chapter that’s not yet been written

What do you want the theme to be?

What will it be called?

Who do you want the lead characters to be? (yes, you get to choose the people that absorb your personal energy)

What do you want the setting(s) to be?

Where do you want the character to be by the end of the chapter?

By stepping outside of yourself to view things from the observer's perspective, you'll gain a razor sharp clarity over what’s really important to you, connecting to your intuition and inner wisdom that's always right.

Sometimes we get so caught up in the detail and the 'story' of our life we can't see the wood for the trees; we fall into the trap of setting random goals from a place of feeling we should/ must/ make 'logical sense' rather than those that stir our being- that genuinely lights us up from within. When we shape our intentions from that place of feeling deeply right and nerve tingling exciting, that is when we are being true to ourselves and living from our true power.

I'd love to hear what's come up for you from this exercise. What's the name of your next chapter? What's the theme?
